CT, We Love You
Although Clayton and I have made a few trips to CT to ride the past two seasons, this trip was extra special. Roy and Danielle joined us for her first trip off the Island. And judging by all the amazing things we saw, and beautiful roads we rode, it definitely didn’t disappoint.
We got an early start waiting on standby for the Cross Sound Ferry. That allowed us some time to grab breakfast overlooking the Sound, and the rest of the day all flowed perfectly. We made it to the “swimming prohibited” swimming hole just in time to have it all to ourselves and we all enjoyed the beauty of the waterfall, and the cool, refreshing water. Although I believe the boys enjoyed it a little more than us ladies (see video below).
Next stop was an awesome Mexican restaurant for a late lunch. Fresca’s offered the perfect chill vibe for taking in the gorgeous 70 degree weather with the freshest drinks - like cucumber lemonades and spicy mezcal margs. We all enjoyed amazing tacos (and burritos) before heading off to the next stop - a beautiful castle tucked away in the Devils Hopyard State Park. The park offered some of the best roads - zero traffic, just enough curves for our different riding levels, and some of the best scenery. Again, you must check out the video but even that doesn’t do it justice. We couldn’t get in the castle because it was already closed (just like the nearby historic ferry we tried to take across the Connecticut River) but we explored the majestic grounds and shared lots of laughs trying to take pictures.
Lastly, we made our way back to New London via the coastal roads checking out small bridges, lighthouses, and more picturesque scenery. We arrived at the ferry just in time to board the boat and watch the sunset. Special thanks to Danielle and Roy for getting us all some hot tea to enjoy on the breezy ride across the Sound.
What an amazing day we shared laughing, smiling and riding with our friends, and planning our next off-island Moto camping trip!!! Don’t forget to check out the video!!!
